Detailed Solution

Garrison towns were fortified settlements with soldiers. They were armed military colonies. The Delhi Sultans rarely extended their rule over an area in the thirteenth century beyond garrison towns. A fortified town with soldiers is called a garrison town. The hinterlands of the cities were rarely within the Sultans' jurisdiction. As a result, they had to rely on trade, tribute, and looting for supplies. The founding of the Delhi Sultanate in 1206 marked the beginning of Muslim authority in India. They only had authority over the fortified towns, which needed supplies from the surrounding countryside. The kings frequently raided their own districts to obtain supplies for the walled towns when the areas on the periphery refused to sell supplies. All of the walled towns and the territories around them came under the control of Ghiyasuddin Balban, Alauddin Khalji, and Mohammed bin Tughluq.
