The Indian industrial sector was dormant till the early 20th century. The British didn’t enable them to grow as it could affect their profits. But the first world war provided a massive impetus to the growth of Indian Industries. The First World War was an industrialised, contemporary conflict. It created an enormous demand for war equipment. The Indian industries were also asked to supply war commodities such as uniforms, jute bags, tents, leather boots, etc. This created a situation for the establishment of new factories. The factories ran multiple shifts. Massive demand for labour was generated, and workers were employed on a large scale.
