Abbe Sieyes, a former priest, wrote the famous pamphlet 'What is the Third Estate?' His pamphlet What is the Third Estate?, published in 1789, became one of the most influential texts of the revolution, helping to transform the Estates-General into the National Assembly. Mirabeau and Abbé Sieyès, who led the members of the 3rd estate, gathered in the hall of the tennis court on the 20th of June. The Third Estate declared itself a National Assembly and sought a constitution for France that would limit the monarch's powers.
