Rassundari Devi wrote the autobiography Amar Jiban. One of the first women to write in Bengali literature is Rassundari Devi. Amar Jiban (My Life), her autobiography, is regarded as the first Bengali-language autobiography to be published. Rassundari Devi lived in an era when social change in India had little to no impact on the lives of women from upper castes or classes. For women, education was unthinkable, and being literate was seen as a sign of being evil or cursed. Rassundari, however, refused to live out her days as an uneducated lady. She created a self-identity apart from her husband and kids by teaching herself to read and write. She worked hard to acquire literacy, and she used it to explore her own identity.
