Antyodaya Anna Yojana was launched in December of 2000.
Among several schemes introduced by the government to eradicate poverty and promote food security, the Antyodaya Anna Yojana is considered one of the most important. The Antyodaya Anna Yojana focuses on people living below the poverty line. Over one crore low-income families from BPL are covered under this scheme. High subsidised food grains are made available, which include wheat for as low as 2 rupees per kg and rice for as low as 3 rupees per kg to all eligible families.
