Detailed Solution

Concept- Hydrocarbons are compounds comprised exclusively of carbon and hydrogen and they are by far the dominant components of crude oil, processed petroleum hydrocarbons (gasoline, diesel, kerosene, fuel oil, and lubricating oil) , coal tar, creosote, dyestuff, and pyrolysis waste products.
Hydrocarbon on complete combustion gives carbon dioxide CO 2   gas and
Water vapour H 2 O  .
The ratio of volumes =10:40:50=1:4:5
All moles of carbon from hydrocarbons are converted into Carbon dioxide.
As 10ml   of a hydrocarbon produces 40ml  .
So, from the ratio of volume Hydrocarbon carbon: Carbon dioxide:1:4
So, 1 mole of hydrocarbon has four moles of carbon.
All the hydrogen from hydrocarbons is converted into water.
As10ml of a hydrocarbon produces 50ml  .
Each water molecule has 2 moles of H   atoms.
So, from the ratio of volume Hydrocarbon carbon: Water:1:10.
1 mole of hydrocarbon thus contains 4 moles of carbon.
C4H10 + 132 O2 4CO2 + 5H2
Hence, option (4) is the correct answer., i.e., Hydrocarbon is C 4 H 10  .
