Current becomes one-fourth when the potential difference decreases to one-fourth of its initial value.
We know that the current using Ohm’s law
I= V/R —- (1)
Where v=voltage,I=current and R=resistance. 
Given that voltage is decreased by half of its initial value.
V'=V4
Then the current
  I'=V'R  [using eq (1) ]
 I' =V4R
    =14×VR
    I'=14I.
Current decreases by one-fourth of its value if the resistance remains constant.
