Newton's first law is also called the law of Inertia.
"Newton's first law states that a body will remain in the state of rest or uniform motion unless an external unbalanced force acts upon it". The tendency of the body to remain in the state of rest is called Inertia of rest; if it moves, then the body is said to be in Inertia of motion. It's common to express Newton's first law of motion as an item remains at rest unless acted upon by an imbalanced force while an object in motion maintains its current speed and direction. According to Newton's first law, unless pushed to alter its condition by the operation of an external force, every object will continue to be at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line.
