This question assumes that the number of soldiers who left after 4 days is variable. Since it was sent to another forty four days later, it must have been eaten four days, so the remaining ration is (28-4) days, and some soldiers are sent to another fort and then eaten. Let the number of soldiers left = x
After 4 days, for 1200 soldiers the food would last for

days
now we have the food that would last for 1200 soldiers= 24 days
and for

soldiers = 32 days
The fewer soldiers you have, the more food you have for more days. Therefore, there is a reverse variation between soldiers and days.
