Detailed Solution

The Kalang communities of Java were very skilled forest cutters.
They were also shifting cultivators. They were considered an essential community by the king. When the Mataram Kingdom of Java split in 1775, 6000 Kalang families were divided into two kingdoms equally. Their expertise helped to harvest teak and to build palaces for the kings. Later Dutch reached Java to take control of the forest, and they tried to make the Kalangs work under them. In 1770, The Kalangs protested against the Dutch by attacking a Dutch fort at Joana, but the colonialists suppressed these people.
