A biosphere reserve is a conserved region where humans are also a part of the system. These areas will cover about 5000 square kilometres. Ecosystems, animals, and genetic resources are all protected under biosphere reserves. These locations are primarily intended for economic growth. The exploitation of natural resources is prohibited.
