Detailed Solution

Mahatma Gandhi launched the Non-Cooperation movement.
Gandhi started the Non-Cooperation movement in September 1920 at the Calcutta session of INC. The non-violent campaign was created with the only objective, “Swaraj as its ultimate aim”, said Gandhiji. The movement used various measures like the surrender of titles, the boycott of British courts by the lawyers, the refusal of government jobs, military jobs, civil education services, and a boycott of foreign goods. As a result, it spread in most of the region with substantial mass support. However, the Chauri-Chaura incident in the Gorakhpur district that led to the death of 22 police officers by the violent protesters changed the situation. Thus Gandhiji was shocked by this incident and withdrew from the Non-Cooperation Movement on February 12, 1922.
