Detailed Solution

Red and Yellow soils develop a reddish color due to the diffusion of iron in crystalline and metamorphic rocks.
India offers a variety of topographic characteristics, landforms, climate zones, and plant life. These have aided in the emergence of several soil types. Red soil forms top crystalline igneous rocks in the eastern and southern regions of the Deccan plateau, where rainfall is often limited. In some areas of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, the southern portions of the middle Ganga plain, and along the piedmont zone of the Western Ghats, yellow and red soils are also present. Due to the diffusion of iron in crystalline and metamorphic rocks, these soils become reddish. When it is present in hydrated form, it appears yellow.
