Detailed Solution

The mass of the water displaced by the packet is 350 g.
Given, the mass of substance, m=500 g, the volume of the packet, v=350 cm3, the density of water =1 gcm-3.
We know that density of a substance is the ratio of its mass to its volume.
So, the density of the packet,
= Mass of substanceVoulme of substance
= 500350  = 1.42 gcm-3
As the density of the packet is greater than that of water so that the packet will sink in water. When it sinks, it displaces water equal to its volume.
The packet will displace water of volume =350 cm3.
Density = Mass of waterVoulme of water
1=Mass of water350
The mass of water =350 g.
Hence, the mass of water displaced by the packet is 350 g.
