We have, $\frac{{ }^{2\mathrm{n}}{\mathrm{C}}_{\mathrm{r}}}{{ }^{2\mathrm{n}}{\mathrm{C}}_{\mathrm{r}-1}}=\frac{2\mathrm{n}-\mathrm{r}+1}{\mathrm{r}}$            (1)

For ${ }^{2\mathrm{n}}{\mathrm{C}}_{\mathrm{r}}$ to be greatest $\frac{2\mathrm{n}-\mathrm{r}+1}{\mathrm{r}}\ge 1$

$\Rightarrow 2\mathrm{n}-\mathrm{r}+1\ge \mathrm{r}\Rightarrow 2\mathrm{r}\le 2\mathrm{n}+1$

$\Rightarrow \mathrm{r}\le \mathrm{n}+\frac{1}{2}$                                           (2)

From (1), $\frac{{ }^{2\mathrm{n}}{\mathrm{C}}_{\mathrm{r}+1}}{{ }^{2\mathrm{n}}{\mathrm{C}}_{\mathrm{r}}}=\frac{2\mathrm{n}-(\mathrm{r}+1)+1}{\mathrm{r}+1}=\frac{2\mathrm{n}-\mathrm{r}}{\mathrm{r}+1}$.

For ${ }^{2\mathrm{n}}{\mathrm{C}}_{\mathrm{r}}$ to be greatest $\frac{2\mathrm{n}-\mathrm{r}}{\mathrm{r}+1}\le 1$

$\Rightarrow 2\mathrm{n}-\mathrm{r}\le \mathrm{r}+1\Rightarrow 2\mathrm{r}\ge 2\mathrm{n}-1$

$\Rightarrow \mathrm{r}\ge \mathrm{n}-\frac{1}{2}$                                          (3)

From (2) and (3), we get $\mathrm{n}-\frac{1}{2}\le \mathrm{r}\le \mathrm{n}+\frac{1}{2}$

⇒ r = n (since r is a positive integer)

Hence, ${ }^{2\mathrm{n}}{\mathrm{C}}_{\mathrm{r}}$ is greatest when r = n.
