Concept- Finding the age of father and his son by suppose their current age as variables.
Given: suppose father's age = x,
Son's age= y
Before three years, sum of ages,

x - 3 + y - 3 = 40

After two years,

s = x + 2 + y + 2

Before three years, father

= x - 3

, son

= y - 3

x - 3 + y - 3 = 40

x + y - 6 = 40

x + y = 40 + 6

x + y = 46

Age of father after two years =

x + 2

Age of son after two years =

y + 2

Sum of their ages,

x + 2 + y + 2 = s

x + y + 4 = s

s = 46 + 4

s = 50
