Detailed Solution

The bluish colour of water in the deep sea is due to scattering of light.
When sunlight hits the water, the water molecules absorb the colours with longer wavelengths. They are red, orange, yellow and green. And the water molecules scatter blue colour light as it has a shorter wavelength. The tiny particles in water scatter light in a way that primarily reflects blue light, giving deep sea water its bluish hue. The longer wavelengths of red, green, orange, and yellow are more effectively absorbed by water than the shorter wavelengths of blue. Therefore, most of the blue reflected back when the sun's white light enters the sea is blue.
