Detailed Solution

Red light is used for signals as it scatters less.
Red colour has the highest wavelength among violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow and orange. Due to this reason, it is less scattered and is visible through large distances. It all has to do with the way different coloured lights scatter. The light travels farther when there is less scattering. Less scattering makes it easier for light to pass through haze, clouds, dust, etc.
The wavelength of red is the largest of all colours. Red light travels farther since there is less scattering of the light. Red lights are therefore used as a warning signal to be seen from a great distance.
