Detailed Solution

Bi-focal lens is used to correct the defect called presbyopia.
“Bi-focal lens is a combination of two lenses on the upper and lower sides. It is used to correct the condition of the eye called presbyopia”. In this condition, the eyes are unable to focus on nearby as well as far off objects. It is caused due to ageing.
Both nearby and distant objects are not clearly apparent in this refractive defect.
For example, the near point is greater than,, 25cn while the far point is less than infinity.
It is an old age sickness because as we age, our ciliary muscles become less flexible and can alter the focal length of our eyes efficiently.
