Detailed Solution

A convex lens cannot split light into seven colours.
A convex lens forms a real, inverted image of objects kept beyond its focal point. For an object kept between its optical centre and focus, it forms a virtual, erect, magnified image. In this position, the lens works as a simple microscope and cannot split light into seven colours. Dispersion of light is splitting white light into a band of seven colours. When white light is incident on a prism, the different colours of light are refracted at different angles, forming a spectrum of seven colours as light dispersion occurs. Also, the dispersion of light occurs in a diamond cut in a special way, and water droplets are suspended in the air.
