Detailed Solution

Wind waves are formed at the surface of water bodies.
Like mechanical or electromagnetic waves, wind also consists of disruptions called wind waves. When they get into contact with water surfaces, they disrupt the water surface, and it looks like waves are moving on the water surface. Wind waves are mechanical waves that travel over the interface of water and air; gravity provides the restoring force; therefore, they are also known as surface gravity waves. When the wind blows, pressure and friction disrupt the equilibrium of the water surface and transfer energy from the air to the water, resulting in the formation of waves.
