Detailed Solution

Dispersion can be shown by using a glass prism.
The dispersion of light splits white light into a band of seven colours. The light of all colours travels at the same speed in a vacuum. When white light is incident on a prism, the different colours of light are refracted at different angles, which results in the formation of a spectrum of seven colours. These seven colours are violet, indigo, blue-green, yellow, orange, and red (VIBGYOR). Newton first showed that light is composed of seven different colours. In other words, when white light passes from the prism, its seven constituents are separated due to different wavelengths, a process called dispersion of light.
