Detailed Solution

A clinical thermometer is used to measure the temperature of our bodies. Most clinical thermometers use mercury. The mercury in the bulb gets heated and rises in the thermometer's stem due to expansion. To read a thermometer, after taking the reading, a kink is provided near the bulb of the clinical thermometer to prevent it from falling back to its original position on its own.
