Detailed Solution

At p1=a

The distance of p1  from center is r1

r1=a+4aa=4a

Gravitational field  =

 Gravitational due to metal sphere at p1 + Gravitational field due to hollow sphere at p2

=GM(4a)2+0=GM16a2

 field due to solid sphere at a point outside it is GMr2

 field due to hollow sphere at a point inside it = 0

Question Image

atp2 ,the distance of P2 from centre is r2=a+4a+a=6a

Gravitational field =

Gravitational due to metal sphere at p2 + Gravitational field due to hollow sphere at p2

We know field due to

(i) solid sphere at a point outside it is =GMr2

(ii) hollow sphere at a point outside it=GMr2

 =GM(a+4a+a)2+G.M(4a+a)2

=GM(6a)2+GM(5a)2=GMa2[136+125]

=GMa2[25+36900]=61GM900a2
