A fuse is a safety device that prevents electric circuit damage.
The working of the fuse is based on the heating effects of the electric current. A fuse is made by inserting a short wire of special material into porcelain or insulting material which melts quickly if a large current flows through it. All electrical appliances are installed with a fuse because of this. There is a maximum limit up to which current flows through them. If the current exceeds a specific limit by accident, this device becomes overheated and melts, which breaks the circuit, and the supply of electricity is stopped. In this way, it helps in the prevention of short circuits.
