To find the value of x.
Given n(S)=24.
For an event A , the probability of an event P(A) is
P(A)=Number of favorable outcomesTotal number of outcomes
For case 1:
The probability of drawing white ball is y when total white balls is x.
P(E)=n(X)n(S)
y=X24……….(i)
For case 2:
Given 12 more white balls were added.
P(E')=n(Y)n(S)
53y=12+x24+12
5y=12+x12……….(ii)
Substitute y in (i) to (ii),
5×x24=12+x12
5x2=12+x
5x-2x=24
3x=24
x=8
Therefore, the value of x is 8.
Hence, option 2 is the correct answer.
