The height attained or the distance is 1.25 m.
Given:
The initial velocity is = 5 m s-1.
The final velocity = 0 (the ball stops at the top)
Acceleration = -10 cm s-2 Since, the ball is thrown vertically upwards, the velocity of the ball goes on decreasing. This is due to the force of gravity of the earth that is acting on it in the downward direction. So, the acceleration is negative.
To find the distance (or height)
Using the third equation of motion formula;
 v2=u2+2as….(1)
Where v,u, s, and a are final velocity, initial velocity, displacement, and acceleration, respectively.
By putting the given values in equation (1), we get,
02=52+2 (-10)s
20 s=25
s=2520=1.25m
