Detailed Solution

According to the law of conservation of linear momentum, we get

m2v0+m×0=mv1+mv2

where v1 and v2 are the velocities of the balls after collision.

v1+v2=2v0                           ...(i)

By definition of coefficient of restitution

e=v2-v1u1-u2=v2-v12v0                            u1=2v0,u2=0 v2-v1=2ev0                           ...ii

Adding i and ii ,we get 2v2=2v0+2ev0;v2=1+ev0

Subtract ii from i, we get

2v1=2v0-2ev0;v1=v0(1-e)

Their corresponding ratio is v1v2=1-e1+e
