After 3s he opens his parachute and decelerates at a constant rate of 10 ms-2. How far is the parachutist from the balloon at = 3s. Calculate the distance in meters.

In time 3s, the balloon has risen through 30m (as the velocity of the balloon is 10 ms-1 upwards). 

h=-10×3+12×10×32=15 m
