Detailed Solution

A beam of alpha particles is projected along the positive x-axis and experiences a force due to a magnetic field along the positive y-axis. The direction of the magnetic field is along the negative z-axis .
Fleming’s left-hand rule: If we stretch our forefinger, middle finger and thumb such that they are mutually perpendicular to each other. If the forefinger shows the direction of the field and the middle finger shows the direction of current then the thumb will point to the direction of motion of the conductor.
According to Fleming’s left-hand rule If the particle is projected along the positive x-axis and experiences a force due to a magnetic field along the positive y-axis, then the direction of the magnetic field is along the negative z-axis.
