Detailed Solution

Speed is defined as the ratio of distance traveled to time spent traveling. Because it has just one direction and no magnitude, speed is a scalar quantity.

Given data:

Total time of journey = 8 hours

Speed of bike for half distance = 60 km/hr

Speed of bike for remaining distance = 80 km/hr

Let total distance be 2x.

Time1 = DistanceSpeed

x60hrs

Time 2 = DistanceSpeed=x80 hrs

 hours

Total time = Time1 +  Time 2

8=x60+x80 8=(4x+3x)240 8=7x240 x =240×87=274 km

Total distance = 2x =2×274=548 km

Total distance covered by the car is 336 km .
