Detailed Solution

The inertia of the two pieces combined will be lesser than the inertia of the object when it is not broken.
An object's inertia is its propensity to resist any force from the outside that seeks to change its state. A measure of inertia is an object's mass. The greater the object's mass, the greater its inertia. Object A will therefore have more inertia than the sum of the inertia of its parts. But because the mass of A is equal to the sum of the masses of its component components, the inertia of the object might be equal to that of A.
