Detailed Solution

A body falling from rest describes S1,  S2 and S3 is the first, second and third seconds of its fall. Then the ratio of S1: S2: S3 is 1:3:5.
Given data
Initial velocity, u=0
Distance covered in 1st-second =S1
Distance covered in 2nd-second =S2
Distance covered in 3rd-second =S3
Find the ratio of the distance covered.Question Image        Formula used:
S=ut+12gt2
Where S is the distance covered, is the initial velocity, is the time taken and is the acceleration due to gravity.
Since we have given body at rest position A, B, and C described.
Therefore, S=0×t+12gt2=12gt2
Distance covered in 1st-second at OA=S1=12g×12=g2
Distance covered in 2nd-second at S2=OB-OA=12g×22-g2=3g2
Distance covered in 3rd-second, S3=OB-OA=12g×32-12g×22=5g2
Hence, the ratio of  S1: S2: S3= g2: 3g2:5g2=1:3:5
