Detailed Solution

The change in momentum for the body is -2mv.
The principle of conservation of linear momentum states that the momentum of a system is conserved.
If v is the initial velocity of the given object of mass m, its momentum will be:
= mv
When it rebounds after hitting the wall, its velocity is same, but direction is reversed. The final momentum will be:
P = - mv
The change in the momentum = final momentum – initial momentum
=> =- mv – mv
=> = - 2mv
