Detailed Solution

Concept: The speed at which mechanical waves move across a medium is determined by the elastic and inertial characteristics of that medium. As they spread, they exchange energy. These waves cannot go over areas of space where there are no particles since they depend on particle interaction to carry their energy. A well-known mechanical wave is sound.
We are aware that nothing exists in outer space, and that the moon is located far from the Earth's atmosphere. The sound waves produced by a bomb explosion on the moon wouldn't be able to travel across space, thus we wouldn't hear it.
Light and electromagnetic waves may both move without a medium.
They can move through the void of space as well as through solid objects and the air. The same is not applicable to mechanical waves, though.
Hence, the correct option is  4 .
