Detailed Solution

Let  the number of passengers = x
From the question we have,
The number of passengers left and boarded at first stop are x2,35
Number of passengers after first stop (x1)=x-x2+35=x2+35
The number of passengers left and boarded at second stop are  x15,40 respectively.
Number of passengers after second stop =x1-x15+40=4x15+40
According to question,
       4x15+40=80
  4x15=40
  x1=50
Since, x2+35=50
x2=15   x=30
Hence, the number of passengers was originally 30.
