A car accelerates uniformly from 18 kmh-1 to 36 kmh-1 within a distance of 15 m. The uniform acceleration of the car is 2.5 m s-2.
Given data in the problem,
Initial velocity, u = 18 km h-1
Final velocity, v = 36 km h-1
Distance covered, s = 15 m
Converting kmh-1 to ms-1
18 kmh-1= 18 × 518 ms-1 = 5 ms-1
36 km h-1= 36 × 518 m s-1= 10 ms-1
By using the third law of motion,
v2 - u2=2as

102 - 52=2 × a× 15

100 – 25 = 30 × a

= 75/30

a = 2.5 ms-1

So, the acceleration of the car is 2.5 ms-1.
