The total distance covered by the car is 320 m.
Given, 
The acceleration of the car a=5 m/s2
Time taken t=8 s
From the second equation of motion we have,
s=ut+12at2 
s is the distance covered by car
u is the velocity of car at rest
The initial velocity u =0, the time taken to complete the distance,t = 8 s, the acceleration, a = 5 m/s2, then the distance:
s1=0+12×5×8×8
         =160 m
The velocity, v=u+at
                          =0+5×8
                          =40 m/s
The distance covered in the next 4 s:
s2=vt
         =40×4
         =160 m
Therefore, the total distance travelled is
s=s1+s2
        =160+160
        =320 m
