All cells have a plasma membrane as their outer layer, but in plant cells, the plasma membrane is found underneath the cell wall. It is composed of a bilayer of phospholipids. Lipids with a phosphate group linked to them are referred to as phospholipids. One hydrophilic head and two hydrophobic tails distinguish the phospholipids. Proteins are encased in lipid bilayers.
