A mountain or an upland, an elevated area separating two drainage basins, is called a Water divide. The city of Ambala is located on the water divide between the Indus and the Ganga river systems. From Amabala to Sundarban, the plains stretch over about 1800 km, but the fall in its slope is 300 metres. Similarly, the peninsular rivers also have a water divide which is marked by the western ghats, which run close to the western coast from north to south.
