Detailed Solution

A commutator is a device that reverses the current.
In an electric motor, a split ring or commutator is made up of two conductive arcs separated by an insulator. It allows the current in the motor's coil to reverse direction (every 180°) and keep the motor spinning. The coil continues to rotate as long as current from the battery is passed through it by reversing the current in the coil every half rotation.
