A group of chosen representatives gathered to draft a constitution as the constituent assembly. The Constituent Assembly's first president was decided to be Dr Rajendra Prasad. It also functioned as India's first Parliament following independence. There were 299 elected members of the Constituent Assembly, including 15 women.
