Detailed Solution

f = 10 cm (Focal length of a convex lens is always positive.)
u = -9.8 cm (Object distance is always taken as negative.)

Lens equation: 1f=1v-1u

Where u is the object distance, v is the image distance, and f is the focal length.

Putting the given values in the equation,

110=1v+19.8

1v=110-19.8=9.8-1098

1v=-0.298v=-9802

v=-490 cm

Since the image distance is negative, it must be virtual and must be located on the side of the object.
