Detailed Solution

a) Given,

    Power of lens, P = +1.5 D

    Focal length of a lens, f=?

    Equation of power of lens is,

                                                                P=1f

    Substituting the values,

                                                 f=1P=11.5

    On simplification,

                                                  f=0.66 m

   Positive f indicates a convex lens.

b) The power of converging lens is positive and that of a diverging lens is negative.

Since the focal length of lens is f=0.66 m, the lens prescribed is a converging lens.
