Detailed Solution

Concept- Finding age by using linear equation which is of one variable
If the father is x years old and the son is y,
According to question, we have
x= 3…………. (a)
Five years ago, we have
Age of father be x – 5 and age of son be y – 5
So, again according to question, we have
x – 5 = 4(y – 5)
x – 5 = 4y – 20
x – 4=-15   …………… (b)
Put (a) in (b) we get:
3y – 4y = -15
- y = -15
y = 15 years
Hence, the correct answer is option 1.
