A food web differs from food chain as it 

Food webs represent the complex interaction among food chain. It is a multitude of network of food chains. On the other hand, food chain is a linear sequence of trophic levels which is not an accurate representation of trophic levels in the ecosystem. For example, a sparrow feeds on grains as well as insects and so can be better represented by food web rather than food chain.
