Detailed Solution

[200][201]
A force of 5 N causes a mass m1 to accelerate by 8 m/s-2and a mass  m2 to accelerate by 24 m/s-2. Acceleration produced if both masses were connected is 6 m/s-2.
Given that,
Force(F)=5 N
Acceleration in m1=8 m/s-2
Acceleration in m2=24 m/s-2
Acceleration in (m1+m2)=?
We know, F=m×
For first case:
5 = m1 × 8,
 m1= 58 kg
 0.625 kg
As a result, the mass m1 is 0.625 kg.
In the second case:
5 = m2 × 24
 m2 = 524  kg
0.208 kg
In the third case:
= m1+m2
0.625 + 0.208
 0.833 kg
Using F=m×a
5 = 0.833 × a
= 50.833
 6 m/s2
