This act prompted an unconstrained protest in Bolivia. Due to this, a successful four-day-long strike occurred in Bolivia by a coalition of labour, community leaders, and human rights activists in January 2000. But the strike had to be aborted after the government claimed to negotiate. However, the government remained in a loop of inaction, bringing out citizens' agitation. Another strike occurred in Bolivia in April 2000, but the government responded by implementing martial law. MNC officials were compelled to flee from Bolivia. The government had no option but to admit to all the protests' demands. As a result, the municipality retrieved the water supply at the previous price.
