Let R be the resistance to be connected in series with the galvanometer of resistance G in order to convert it into a voltmeter reading up to 2.5 V. Then the current through the galvanometer is

               Ig=2.5R+G

Putting    Ig= 1 mA = 1 x 10-3A and

 G = 10 Ω, we get R = 2490 Ω.
