200 men had provisions for 45 days. After 15 days, 40 more men joined the garrison.
Let the number of days remaining food lasts be x days.
The provision days for the remaining food for 200 men, 4515=30  .
The total number of men, 200+40=240  .

We can clearly see that, more the number of men less the number of days the food last.
Therefore, this is the case of inverse proportion.
As this is case of inverse proportion, therefore the product will remain constant throughout table that is,
200×30=240x  
Simplifying,
